These had been dark times; nothing new here, however. I knew better than to expect any different. I suppose it all boiled down to me knowing my siblings all too well. I always knew I'd end up being dragged somehow into their petty wars and disagreements. This time was no exception; however, I wasn't just doing this for me this time. No. This time the fight for the crown was literal. I just didn't see it coming. Well...I suppose I didn't see a lot of things coming. Leaving wasn't always my first choice, but it seemed the most reasonable at the time. I had grown to understand Theodore more and more; how he operated, his intentions, but he always managed to still have a few tricks up his sleeve.
Then the time came, the big decision: leave or stay. I chose the former, I had accepted he beat me. I accepted that we were now in different worlds. However, time came for me to stop running; stop hiding. I had to put an end to this nonsense; too many people caught in the crossfire.
With every action, there must always come a greater reaction. I had followed that Rule all my life. It was time to show my siblings who needed to be in charge.
"Well, here we are again," I motioned them to the room. "Please, take a seat."
Each individual carried themselves differently; some walked like they owned the place, others like they were walking into the principal's office. I knew it in my gut this was something I needed to do. I just never thought I'd have to punish them, too.
The fine gentlemen and the lady sat around the table, some more anxious than others, I could tell. It made no difference to me, I had brought them all together for one specific solution: to work together. In order for the System to work, all Parts must join in together and will without any doubt or hesitation, help one another.
Theodore was calm, but I could see his gears grinding hard at it. His frown was always obvious, even if he tried to deny it. He put a cigarette out in the ashtray in front of him, exhaled out a cloud of smoke, and looked me straight in the eyes.
"If you will allow me, I'd like to plead our case, dear brother."
I looked at him and saw nothing in those bloodshot eyes of his; just an empty cry for help. I knew he was trying to bargain with me; I wouldn't even entertain the thought for him.
"Theodore, there is nothing to plead here. What is done is done, I have come here to rectify it. If you all had adhered to the Rules, perhaps we wouldn't be in this predicament, and none of this would have happened. However, in our best interests today in this meeting, it is fruitless to stand in regret and stay in the past. We must move forward. I have taken liberty to go over the Rules between my Team and we have come down with, let's say, a few changes--effective immediately."
"Woah woah there, Mister, that's not fair. You didn't even mentioned this to us? Just outta the blue you guys made them up?" The Little One decided to speak up; always butting in, how rude. That childish voice always made me cringe in disgust; like nails on a chalkboard. He stomped his walking stick on the ground and demanded my full attention. "I gotta say, Mister, that is not cool at all."
"Brother, please, what I think he's trying to say is that we should all go over this first before a decision is made. And to vote, if need be, as well." Next to him, Blue backed his accomplice up. How loyalties divide us. It is amazing, really. He was fidgety; he was scared--his eyes, those I could tell.
"I suggest you let this one go, Brother." Roman whispered from across Blue. His eyes were pitch black, but if that taught me anything was that at least what lied behind them would never change. Just like the burnt smell of his skin and the smoke around him.
"I do not think you all understand why I brought you all here," I said standing up. "You are all here to listen... and listen you will. After I have said what I needed to say, then you will follow my Rules. No questions. No bargains. No fighting. You will do as I say."

The Book Of Happy
"Reading reading and more reading! Ugh, I'm getting bored and tired and bored again." The Little One complained too much. He stood in between a mountain of books, most scattered on the floor, no particular order.
"You have to understand the responsibility that comes with being a Guardian. And more importantly, you must understand the responsibility that comes with being here, in The Library. If you cannot do that, I am afraid I will have to take it from you. Something I think you are all too familiar with already."
"No no no, okay Mister, don't do that. I'm just saying, like, it would be cool if I got to do other stuff too! Maybe I can help some other way also?" His hollowed eyes did nothing for me, and that eerie smile with his fangs protruding over one another only made me upset. No matter how much he tried to play cute, I didn't buy it. Most certainly not now of all times.
"You will do as you are instructed, do you understand? No questions asked." I told him firmly as I gave him the key-ring. As his skinny fingers gripped it, light started forming and each individual key formed before my eyes. The brief light vanished, and it put a pit in my stomach. I was no longer sure if I had done the right thing.
