SKELETONS & DEMONS
"Man is neither angel nor brute, and the misfortune is that he who would act the angel acts the brute."
They say we all have a little bit of dark inside of us. This darkness, like any darkness, exists where there is a lack of light, or in the case of this topic, a lack of good. There are people that hide this darkness, others that suppress it, others that choose to ignore it. Then there's the ones that embrace it.
You got the ones that keep it under control. Those are the functioning monsters of society. The ones that choose to keep this darkness under control, or under lock and key. They wear masks. They wear masks to cover up the truth that lies behind. These people, they don't stand out, they seem pretty common, like regular human beings. Like you or me.
It's hard to tell what kind of darkness a person has hiding inside until the moment when you get to know that individual in a very intimate and personal level. That's when you start seeing the cracks in the armor, the little dark spots where the darkness lies dormant.
Only by knowing a person on this deep level is when you can truly see their colors. Their black and whites. Their shades of grey. But what happens when the darkness is too much to bear? When said darkness starts pouring out, spilling over? It's not your job to pick it up, it's not your job to carry the darkness.
Except sometimes, you do it, don't you? You know you shouldn't. It's not your responsibility, but you try to help out. And the outcome is rarely good.
Each individual carries their bit of darkness, just as they carry their ray of light. It's part of who they are, but one thing that is good to remember, is that when it gets to the point that it spills over you, and it gets too much to carry, that's the moment when you need to back off, the moment when it's time to walk away.
We can only carry our darkness. We can't carry other people's. It becomes too much of a burden. Too much of a dead-weight. And that's never good.
So if you find yourself in a situation where your darkness is spilling over into someone else, take a step back and recollect yourself. It's your duty, your responsibility. Your job to keep that to yourself. To keep it under control.
