Exodus 33:14

Picture
The Orange God said, “My presence will go with you. I’ll see the journey to the end.”

The Red God agreed.

The Yellow Sun concurred.

The Blue Moon followed.

The Preacher added, "Me as well."

The Man In Black tipped his hat in accordance.

The White Guardian followed.

The Alienist nodded in approval.

The Twins said yes in unison.

The Green Scar agreed.

The Angry Man said yes, without hesitation.

The Yellow-Eyed King agreed.

The Night Owl said, "Fudge yeah."

"Well, we woke up tossing and turning--an unfamiliar fire's been burning, and we do not know how to feel, we're not used to real. It's too real. For many years, we've been lonely, but then you came around, ever so slowly. When we needed you most, you'd hold us. You would unfold us. Our love, it is no regular love."

Remember, for you are strong--you are a Queen. And Queens never let up. They fight. They rise. And they kick fudging ass.

"Now if you are ready, at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?"

Picture
Lion, Spartan and Bull replied to the King "O Merciful, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter...

...if it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O King."

Picture
So the story goes, out from the ashes, three brothers rose,
hand in hand guided by light,
green as grass and full of might
they would be spared pain from the dark blight,
but only if they agreed to go
serving punishment and staying low.
But then someone broke the magic lock,
and out came the wolf to cull the flock,
but instead the threes began to talk,
and once more they embraced their Roles.

A Victim, A Protector, A Guardian.

"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."

Canto XII, lines 16–20

Picture
And towards the precipice, she walked; below, there lay a spread of burnt green, conceived from ashes and turned to stone; and from the confines of the Palace, there sounded the exasperated cry of a half beast and half man.
Climbing down she arrived and towards the Palace she ran. Entered inside, and towards the cries she followed. Nearing the iron door, the cries intensified. So she cried out:…
"I'm here, you beast; this time I come to bargain, for I am your sister; all Brother wants
in ever coming here is to observe your torments. I offer change."
Just then the Bull pulls at its shackles, but they do not break loose from its halter
and so the moment Sister lays the fatal blow unto the iron door, the Bull then pulls harder, plunging back and forth, and then the Bull did respond;

Picture
"Sister, is it you? Dare you enter my chambers, years long after last?
Dare you descend into lower Hell, this ashes now turned fortress of impenetrable skin; if I recall correctly, it was before the rise of power, of the One who did take from Host.
Now you enter here, the lowest circle, with no spoils, just remnants of what could have been, to find me yet again chained.
Here I thought our world had last felt love (which, as some might confuse, does disguise itself as chaos); and now at this moment, here you stand before me, tell me Sister, do I still frighten you so?"

Picture

The poet waited briefly, then said
to me: "Since he is silent, do not lose
this chance, but speak and ask what you would know."
And I: "Do you continue; ask of him
whatever you believe I should request;
I cannot, so much pity takes my heart."
Picture
"I  must respond, dear Brother, for I offer an exchange, if you so pity me,
for I have reached a place where the shiniest of lights mutes sounds and sings music, like an orange tempest, filled with opposing winds.
That gorgeous hurricane, which never rests,
drives on hope, with high spirits,
moving and running.
Then it comes upon a ruined land,
there more cries join in, lamenting,
but they're nothing if not divine.
I learned then, that those who undergo a torment of this proportion,
those are not damned, but blessed.
As are you, Brother."

Book 13: Hospitality & Loyalty

Picture
"Ah now, the prophecy of old is come to completion, that my father spoke, when he said Cangrejo someday would be angry with us, because we are convoy without hurt to all men. He said that one day, as a well-made ship of men came back from a convoy on the misty face of the water, he would stun it, and pile a great mountain on our city, to hide it."

Picture
"So speaking the goddess scattered the mist, and the land was visible. Long-suffering great Yellow was gladdened then, rejoicing in the sight of his country, and kissed the grain-giving ground […]."
Goddess:
"But come now, let me make you so that no mortal can recognize you. For I will wither the handsome flesh that is on your flexible limbs, and ruin the brown hair on your head, and about you put on such a clout of cloth any man will loathe when he sees you wearing it; I will dim those eyes, that have been so handsome, so you will be unprepossessing to all the suitors and your siblings, those whom you left behind in your palace."

Picture
Goddess: "[I will] tell you all the troubles you are destined to suffer in your well-wrought house; but you must, of necessity, endure all, and tell no one out of all the men that you have come back from your wanderings, but you must endure much grief in silence, standing and facing men in their violence."

Picture
Picture
"The present doom upon the ship - on me-
my father prophesied in the olden time.
If we gave safe conveyance to all passengers
we should incur Cangrejo's wrath, he said,
whereby one day a fair ship, manned by Siblings,
would come to grief at the god's hands;"

Picture
"Son of Sons and the gods of old,
Rojo, master of land ways and sea ways,
put your mind on a way to reach and strike
a crowd of brazen upstarts. Three long years
they have played master in your house: three years
trying to win your lovely lady, making
gifts as though betrothed."

Picture
Picture
Goddess: "Whoever gets around you must be sharp
and guileful as a snake; even a god
might bow to you in ways of dissimulation.
You! You chameleon!
Bottomless bag of tricks! Here in your own country
would you not give your strategems a rest
or stop spellbinding for an instant?
[. . .]
No more of this, though. Two of a kind, we are..."

Picture
X: "All wanderers
And beggars come from Z. What we can give
is slight but well-meant—all we dare. You know
that is the way of slaves, who live in dread
of masters—new ones like our own."

Picture
Goddess: "Then I can tell you of the gall and wormwood
it is your lot to drink in your own hall.
Patience, iron patience, you must show;
So give it out to neither man nor woman
that you are back from wandering. Be silent
under all injuries, even blows from men."
